Can it really be that men are experiencing more work-life balance troubles than women? Apparently, as reported in the Families and Work Institute’s National Study of the Changing Workforce, The New Male Mystique.
President Obama announced on June 22, 2011 that in response to the United States’ significant progress in achieving projected goals in Afghanistan there will be an accelerated withdrawal of American soldiers who are deployed in the country. By the end of this year 10,000 troops will be welcomed back from Afghanistan and another 20,000 by the end of next summer. The remaining give or take 70,000 soldiers will return at a steady pace until 2014, the anticipated time in which security responsibilities will be transferred from U.S to Afghan authorities.
Navigating a career through the nonprofit sector may not be as easy as most people imagine. Once you decide to forgo the monetary bottom line to work for a specific cause or organization, you would think that doors would immediately open for you, and opportunities allowing you to work on behalf of the ‘greater good’ would be plentiful. Wrong. The nonprofit sector is just as competitive as the for-profit sector, with many individuals transitioning between for-profit and nonprofit work.

Take a glance at the report Untapped Porential: European Foundation Funding for Women and Girls. Produced by the Foundation Center and Weisblatt associés, the report is the most comprehensive study to date on the philanthropic activities of European foundations. The study draws upon surveys, grants, and interview data to understand the range of foundational characteristics and interests, as well as their specific approaches to work related to women and girls.
Ninety percent of foundations, regardless of their present level of commitment, their size or location, expressed interest in at least a few issues related to women and girls. More than one-third of the foundations, or 37%, reported engaging in some grant making for women and girls.
