NCRW Network Gets the Facts Out About Health Disparities

January 14, 2010 posted by admin

We have just released another Big Five fact sheet: Alleviating Health Disparities--Key to a Healthy and Productive Nation. In this fact sheet, you will find facts about gender, race, and class health disparities and how they impact the nation's well-being. For instance, did you know that black women comprise 65% of HIV/AIDS cases but only 13% of the female population? To secure the nation's health, care and coverage must be made more accessible and affordable to all citizens, epsecially low-income women and families.

Also, the Women's eNews Black Maternal Health Multimedia Project is hosting a screening and discussion next Wednesday, January 20th of "Crisis in the Crib: Saving Our Nation's Babies," a documentary by Tonya Lewis Lee focusing on maternal and infant health in the African American community. The event will be held at the Women's eNews offices located at 6 Barclay Street. The film starts at 6:30pm (please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior). RSVP: charlotte@womensenews.org.

Finally, the National Partnership for Women and Families has released a fact sheet on how "workplace wellness programs" are often doorways for insurance discrimination that disproportionately targets women. Click here to download the fact sheet and learn more.
