Top Fund Managers of the Decade Nominees Reflect Scarcity of Women

December 14, 2009 Posted by Vivienne Heston-Demirel

It was brought to our attention recently that among candidates for Morningstar's Manager of the Decade Award, there was one lone woman: Christine Thompson from Fidelity Municipal. While we congratulate Ms. Thompson for this outstanding achievement we note with disappointment the lack of other female nominees. We hope that our recent report Women in Fund Management: A Road Map for Achieving Critical Mass -- and Why It Mattersand the outreach that we've been conducting in the financial sector is raising awareness about the importance of women's leadership and the special talents they bring to risk management and the investment field.

NCRW President Linda Basch and Board Member Emerita/former Goldman Sachs Partner Jacki Zehner recently presented the report's findings at the Women's Alternative Investment Summit in New York on December 2 as well as other gatherings, including a special briefing for our Emerging Leaders Network held at Barclay's on December 8 and the Global Meeting of the international Women's Forum in Deauville, France in October. Linda Basch has also presented the report at Credit Suisse, UBS and at the Society and Gender 2030 conference hosted by the Max Planck Society and the European Academy for Women in Politics and Business in Berlin last week. Stay tuned for more updates...
